Champagne Fleury has been owned and operated by the same family since 1895. Located in the Côtes de Bar in the village of Courteron, the Fleury estate stretches to 15 hectares of gentle and steep slopes with South-South East exposure.
The Fleury family has been at the forefront of innovation playing a large role in the history of Champagne. As a pioneering Estate, they most recently trail-blazed the focus on farming and integrity of site by converting their entire estate to bio-dynamic production before any other vineyard in Champagne.
In 1901, Emile Fleury was one of the first Vigneron in Champagne to replant Pinot Noir after phyloxerra. His son, a true renegade, Robert Fleury, bottled the Family’s first champagne in 1929 (in a time when it was virtually unheard of for a small family maison to bottle their own wine). In the 1970s, Jean-Pierre Fleury turned his passions and interests toward the vineyards and the impact of chemicals on their land. The Family began to experiment with manual tilling and composting followed by a conversion of 3 hectares to Biodynamics of the estate in 1989. After 3 years of applying those principles, Jean-Pierre Fleury chose to convert the entirety of his vineyard holdings to biodynamic farming. In 1993, Gault-Millau elected Jean-Pierre winemaker of the year and the international recognition has continued.
